How I keep focused during long writing sessions
The thing about writing is that you can't rush it. It takes time, and if you try to rush through it, you'll end up with a whole bunch of stuff that doesn't make any sense. So how do I keep focused during long writing sessions?
Well, for one thing, I try to have a routine. If I'm working on a novel, for example, I'll get up around 6:00 AM and make myself some coffee (if it's a novel that takes place in the morning/afternoon). Then I'll sit down at my desk and write until about 8:00 AM or so—and then get up and go back to sleep until noon.
Then we'll eat dinner together as a family before he goes back to work at 9:00 PM (so this is when the kids go to bed). And then… well… then there's no room for me anymore! But seriously, having this routine helps me focus because it gives me structure. It ensures that every day starts off with writing, even though sometimes.
